Sailing into Marine Education, from the Ocean to the Bay
The Mid-Atlantic Marine Education Association (MAMEA) is proudly hosting the NMEA 2014 conference in Annapolis, Maryland. The NMEA’s mission is to make known the world of water both fresh and salt, and we bring together formal and informal marine educators around the world to promote awareness and education of the global marine environment. The conference draws 300-500 formal and informal educators from high schools, public aquariums, non-profit NGOs, and government agencies together for 5 days of learning, sharing, and networking. The 2014 conference will have STEM and the Next Generation Science Standards as a main focus.
- The welcome event on July 21 will be held at the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), and will include tours of the engineering and oceanography labs, the oceanographic research vessel, the "yard" or campus, speakers, and a reception.
- We will be hosting an evening event at the National Aquarium, Baltimore. Conference participants will be able to tour the Aquarium exhibits and dance to the music of Baltimore band Donegal X-press.
